As cycle tour providers, we know that people often forget about the training or leave it to the last minute (the week before they arrive!). Even though the Central Otago Rail Trail is a grade 1 cycling trail and the perfect foray into a cycling holiday, for a super enjoyable cycling holiday we do recommend some cycle preparation! This could be on an ordinary bike, e-bike or stationary bike at the gym.
One of the main reasons for training is to get your bottom accustomed to sitting on a bike seat for 3-4 hours a day!
We recommend the following training program commencing 4 weeks prior to your trip.
Week 1: Go for 2 bike rides, 30 to 40 minutes each.
Week 2: Go for 2 bike rides. Ride 1 – 45 to 60 minutes. Ride 2 – 1.5 hours.
Week 3: Go for 2 bike rides. Ride 1 – 60 minutes. Ride 2 – 1.5 to 2 hours.
Week 4: Go for 2 bike rides. Ride 1 – 1.5 hours. Ride 2 – 3 hours.
Do the training! Your bottom will thank you for it!
